As soon as school let out and summer vacation officially began the kids and I packed our bags, boarded a plane and headed south to Fort Worth, Texas. Never visiting Fort Worth we were filled with anticipation, excitement and expectations and Fort Worth lived up to all of it! The city is full of great energy, is so clean and always has something to do.
Five days of abundant sun and southern hospitality warmed our skin and our hearts. The warm days were spent cooling off by the pool,
and the warm nights were spent eating authentic Tex Mex food at Fuzzy's Taco Shop, or BBQ at Cooper's Old Time Pit BBQ, and for me enjoying a cold adult beverage. Our northern roots were quickly discovered when I ordered a "pop" for my son instead of a "soda". But we weren't made fun of. Instead we were welcomed with friendly conversation and well wishes for a wonderful stay.
One fun highlight of our stay was a trip to the Fort Worth Stock Yards.
This National Historic District is filled with attractions, entertainment, shopping, dining and everything cowboy - boots, hats and all. This is where we took in all the sites, smells and sounds of the livestock industry in Texas. Learn more about the Fort Worth Stock Yard here.
Here are a few unique sights we took in while at the Stock Yard (and yes, that is a rat on a cat on a dog and no they are not tied down). They are pretty famous at the Stock Yards.
Another highlight was being in Fort Worth when the Dallas Mavericks beat the Miami Heat to win the NBA title! We spent the night in downtown Fort Worth at Fox & Hound Sports Bar eating pub grub and taking in all the excitement. Being from northeast Ohio and growing up with the Cavs, I was more than happy to root on the Mavs (and defeat LeBron). The kids and I were welcomed in the celebration as honorary Cavrick fans! The town went nuts and it was an exciting end to a wonderful trip.
We all proudly became a little bit cowboy and we definitely look forward to our next trip to Fort Worth.
